DopeEraMagazine Goes in the Ring with Bilal Mahasin

This was one of my favorite interviews from the start for two reasons: 1) Bilal Mahasin is a pro boxer (GBO Champion) who has been through a lot and uses what he's gone through to motivate others. His interview touched on a lot of things that really helped cement a good part of what Dopeeramagazine is really about. Yes we have fun, we love music, we let people smoke weed and snort coke on camera, we are totally uncensored. But it's about keeping things real and showing real life, and a major part of that which we wanted to show was motivating people who are trying to change their communities for the better. So a little preach with that entertainment is necessary. Just enough to not scare people away. Actually, I'd say we give you the game more than preach. 2) I got to go in the ring and have a pro boxer swinging at me! I love this kind of in the action filming. PRSTG Shop in Alameda - DopeEraMagazine

Our next adventure was to interview one of the co-owners of PRESTIGE in Alameda, CA. A total Sneaker head heaven. Pretty much what they do is find rare and sought after sneakers and re-sell. They may of bought a very well kept pair of Jordan's from a sneaker head hard up for cash and cleaned them up, while some shoes are brand new. The shop stays busy as long as it's open. And their Instagram account stays flowing with new buys coming in that keeps sneaker heads wanting more. From a behind the scenes stance though, these are a really cool down to earth group of guys that work this shop. They know when we come in, it's always a warm welcome. We pretty much get all of our shows here (yes even for women's shoes because men's shoes are better!). Unfortunately I kind of wish I could have re-done some of the B roll scenes since at the time I didn't have a rig and good lens to give more depth in clarity with the shoe shots. Interview with Akintunde Ahmad

The start of this year involved so many interviews that it will take me forever catching up to post them all. This is actually one of my favorites. For one, it's a highly intelligent discussion between two straight A students, one in college the other in High School and they discuss the difficulties and possibilities of making it to higher education in a city like Oakland, CA. Oakland, CA is one of the most violent cities in America today. It has long had that reputation although now it is getting better it is still on the top ten list. Education is difficult for young students who want to succeed in this city. The schools have practically no budget for anything that the students need and some of the teachers become so discouraged they don't give any impression of caring towards the students. Akintunde Ahmad made big news a few years ago by getting a 5.0 GPA. He received many scholarships and chose to go to Harvard. The person interviewing him is actually my daughter, Naudik
